With the aim of winning the first game of the second round, Zurrieq FC Futsal came draw with MaBu FC, but remained in the second place.
Coach George Magri started the game with Ramon as goalkeeper together with Saviour, Steve, Rodrick and Jacinto. Zurrieq took the lead of the game from the begining. In fact in the 5th minute Jacinto had a good chance to open score continued few minutes later by Steve Hayman. Although Zurrieq controlled the game very well, MaBu FC opened the score in the 14th minute. Several changes made by George Magri lead to Zurrieq to regain confindence in their play with Ian Attard close to open score nearly in the end of the first half. With conitnous pressing and determination to open score lead to finish the first half 1-0.
In the second half Zurrieq managed to control better the game. With good play and more confidence Zurrieq brought the draw in the 8th minute by Steve Hayman. Few minutes later Zurrieq were unlucky by Jacinto hitting the post. Alexei score the second goal for Zurrieq in the 14th minute with good collective play from all the players. Continous pressing followed by several substitutions, in the 16th minute Ivan Zammit was unlucky by hitting again the post. Soon after, with a good play by Jacinto and Ivan Zammit playing a typical futsal game, the 3rd goal for Zurrieq came in the 18th minute. Unfortunately few minutes later MaBu Fc equalised the score in the 3 minutes time with Zurrieq loosing several times the possesion of the ball.
Zurrieq FC Futsal register their first foreign player Jacinto Carretero Gutierrez. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Jacinto to our club and to have a wonderful season.

Since the last update...
many things have changed, only one thing remains the same - our aim towards promotion. Unfortunately this website has been asleep for some time now and an update was long due. We apologize to our supporters for the long wait and promise to keep up to date from now on.
In the meantime we have started the second round and played 3 games, one win one lost and a draw. This is the same amount of points we had in the same round at this point. It could have been better and it could have been worse, for sure we cannot miss from now on if we are to keep the dream alive. The first game of the second round was a 0-0 against a much improved Tal-Werqa side, it was a fair result even if we missed 3 or 4 clearcut chances. After this game we played against El Mundos, the only side who managed to beat us in the 1st round. We were all hyped up for this match and nobody wanted to finish on the losing end once again. Unfortunately we were very nervous in our build up and even though we went ahead, we lost control of the match and were not wise enough to keep the advantage. Moreover we committed six fouls and their equaliser came through the six fouls penalty. In the second half it was game over as El Mundos neutralised all our efforts and hit us on the counter attacks. Next came Hacienda Bar, a very physical side which held us to a 2-2 draw in the first round. Our morale was rock bottom after the El Mundos game, this resulted in a 3-1 deficit during the first half against Hacienda! The game looked over at that point however the second half was a completely different story. We won the game 5-3! Scoring 4 goals without reply in the second half. This was a morale boosting effort from all the team.
Meanwhile the team has played some friendly matches against strong opposition, namely 1st division side Naxxar (8-8) and Los Street boys (we won 8-7). Both games were attended by a good number of players, a very positive sign considering that lately we used to be no more than 7 players for friendly matches and training sessions. Our next competitive match is against Wilkinson Swords, Saturday ,14th February - 15.00hrs -Corradino Pavilion. See you there, till then.....Happy Valentine's Day

Although this season ended up without the honours predispossed from the commencement of the season, the Zurrieq FC Futsal Committee is working without haste, contacts with a Portugeuse organisation to participate in a prestiguous international Futsal Tournament in Lisbon, Portugal during the summer holidays probably in the beginning of September. For this tournament teams such as Sporting Lisbon, Benfica, Barcellona, Middlesborough, etc had participated in the last tournaments over the past years.
At this moment arrangments and preparations from the Committee are being made, regarding the travel and so on as well as the technical staff is working on a programme for the physical and tactical preparation for the players. Moreover, recent news from the Committee were that one of the organisers will be coming to Malta for holiday in the coming weeks and is willing to meet the Committee and probably as well as the technical staff and players.
More information and news will be on this website immediately after confirmation from the Committee.
Aluserv 5 vs Zurrieq FC 1
Unfortunately, the final result result is unjust for Zurrieq . . . . but that is futsal - the winner is the team that is able to put the ball in the opposing net the most times and this Aluserv did it exclusively well. By this, it does not mean that of taking the merit of the victory from Aluserv because from their behalf they played very well but Zurrieq also played very well but were very unlucky in the ability to score.
Aluserv immediately showed clearly their motive and started to attached fiercely towards the Zurrieq posts but were never a threat due to the attentive Zurrieq defense. A long throw from keeper Marco Farrugia, which crossed the whole pitched, went towards Reuben Collins who managed to flick the ball with his head and place the ball into Alusev net which left the Aluserv keeper looking. The match was balanced with both teams trying to win. Aluserv missed their chances and even Zurrieq missed their opportunities to increase the lead. But through the first half Aluserv managed to score twice.
As the second half commenced, Aluserv began to press much more than the first half and Zurrieq were finding it very difficult to manage to create any good manouevre to reach the opponents net. Coach Magri continue to perform some substitutions to balance the team on the pitch again. But while doing this a freekick in favour of Aluserv gave them the opportunity to score the third goal with a direct powerful shot in the top corner of the net. Zurrieq put everything on the attack to manage to save the game and some open score chances were missed. Aluserv had different ideas and through two defensive mistakes managed to score twice near the end of the match making the final result that of 5 -1.

Zurrieq FC Scorer: Reuben Collins.
Zurrieq FC 7 vs Fugazi 2
MFA had decided that the knock out for division 1 and 2 teams of the MFA Futsal Leagues will play against each other. Zurrieq met Fugazi in their first match. Fugazi, another team from the second division in the other group did not offer that much of an opposition throughout the whole match.
Zurrieq with two new debutants being Julian Azzopardi as goalkeeper and midfielder Alexei Saliba showed improvement from their last league match against Pieta. Zurrieq began to press a lot throughout the whole pitch and after some missing score chances it was Collins who scored for Zurrieq. Zurrieq continued to play and with continuous substitutions by coach Magri, helped the team to be continuously concentrated and fresh. Collins scored his second goal of the match after a one touch passing from him to Muscat and the latter returning the ball to him and Collins with a first timer placed the ball in the opponents net. Fugazi scored their first goalwith a powerful shot in the top part of the net leaving Azzopardi with nothing to do. Stephen Hayman made it three by the end of the first half.
Zurrieq entered the pitch concentrated but it were Fugazi who reduced the score and made it 3 - 2. But Zurrieq had different ideas and it was a shot by joseph Lia who put Zurrieq on the track for a wonderful victory. Chris Farrugia increased the score to five for Zurrieq and Ian Attard in a one man manouever where he managed to dribble three opponents had the ability and concentration to place the ball into the net to make it six. Saviour Busuttil had the last say of the match with another goal for Zurrieq. A lot of score chances were missed throughout the game and the score could have been more but hope to leave them for the second round match against Division 1 Aluserv next Saturday 10th May.
Zurrieq FC Formation: Julian Azzopardi (Gk); Ian Attard; Reuben Collins; Roderick Caruana; Joseph Lia; Trevor Briffa; Chris Farrugia; Stephen Hayman; Alexei Saliba; Saviour Busuttil; Frankie Sammut; Alex Muscat. Coach: George Magri. Kit Manager: Roderick Zammit. Team Nurse: Joe Montfort.

Zurrieq FC 4 vs Pieta RMF Wolves 5
The last game of the MFA Second Division Section A League for both Zurrieq and Pieta was just a formality, . . . to play simply to observe the fixtures as any result would have no impact on the classification - Zurrieq will remain in third place while Pieta will remain in the last place of the group and will be relegated to play in the third division next year. Although the described situation neither teams wished to loose.
Zurrieq, again with certain players missing, gave more chance to those players who played less during the season. In the first half Zurrieq were the better team although the usual manouevers, tactics, agility and play were not seen throughout the whole match. But the goals came, . . . first from Alex Muscat and then from Trevor Briffa in the first minutes of the half. Moreover, Pieta tried very hard to score they found an attentive keeper and their main treats were from long shotsand never a real treat. In a beautiful one tough futsal Collins managed to come face to face with Pieta keeper and with a powerful shot in the top part of the net managed to increase the score for Zurrieq. Again before the whistle for the end of the first half, it was again Reuben Collins who managed to score his second goal of the match and the fourth for Zurrieq.
Zurrieq players entered the pitch for the second half very relaxed and with their minds at ease that the game was already won. But Pieta had different ideas! Although any result would not change their situation they came out very agressively and with a great determination. Infact in the first few minutes they managed to score three times with the same manouever. Zurrieq panicked! Seeing the match which was at hand being driven away slowly slowly. Substitutions were made and efforts to score were also tried but Zurrieq could not score and Pieta in few minutes scored twice with the second goal and their fifth coming from a corner set piece which was deviated by a Zurrieq defender into its own net. Zurrieq tried in the last minutes but their manouever was without concentration and with a lot of akward thinking. Unfortunately the result remained 5 - 4 infavour of Pieta giving them the second win of the season and a lesson to Zurrieq that nothing should be taken for granted!
Now Zurrieq have to look out for the Knock Out for better results and a better ending to this season after a lot of sacrifices from the Committee!

Pentagon Properties 2 vs Zurrieq FC 3
Although everything was already decided in the top part of the section A group either for the promotion to first division as well as for the play offs, Zurrieq took the match seriously as if they still were in chance for the promotion. On the other hand, their opponents, Pentagon, whom on their behalf they already had won the second division section A and were still undefeated gave their heart throughout this match.
Immediately from the start, Pentagon put everything on the attack pressing Zurrieq in their area and showing their obvious intention of winning the game. Zurrieq on their behalf were very concentrated although with various players missing from the line-up due to various reasons. Pentagon were not of a threat to Zurrieq finding the defence very attentive. As time went on, Zurrieq began to create their play and created some occassions for score and in one of these, good work from Hayman on the right wing passed the ball to Ian whom with a sliding tackle and pressed from an opponent managed to divert the ball inside the Pentagon's net. Now Zurrieq wished to control the game but a wonderful lob above the defence line form a Pentagon player managed to free one of their attackers who lobbed the ball over Zurrieq keeper. Zurrieq did not loose heart and with a wonderful strike from Roderick Caruana put again Zurrieq on the lead before the end of the first half.
The second half continued from where the first half ended, both teams attentive and doing their best to create score occassions. It was again Roderick Caruana, who shook again Pentagon when he robbed the ball from an opponent at the middle of the pitch and running towards the post fired a powerful shot in the top part of the net making the result 3 - 1 in favour of Zurrieq. Time was now pressing and both teams did not stop to play and create occassions. Open score chances from both sides were missed due to lack of concentration from the attackers or through the wonderful saves by the keepers. Pentagon began to press more where in their attack manouevers they changed the keeper with another player so that they could attack with five in Zurrieq's area. Near the end they managed to score their second goal, but Zurrieq managed to keep away more harm in the last few remaining seconds.
With such result Zurrieq consolidated the third place and were able to give the first defeat of the season to the Champions of the Second Division Section A.
Zurrieq FC Formation: Marvin Bugeja (Gk); Ian Attard; Trevor Briffa; Roderick Caruana; Stephen Hayman; Frankie Sammut; Alex Muscat; George Magri. Coach: George Magri. Kit Manager: Roderick Zammit. Team Nurse: Joe Montfort.

Zurrieq FC 4 vs Naxxar Motors 4
The two teams contending for the second post in the group and a chance to play the play offs for the promotion to the first division finally met. Both teams were well prepared as was shown immediately after the referee's whistle. Zurrieq's chances was to obtain the outmost of it, that is, the win while Naxxar with just a draw had better chances although with a win was just better.
Naxxar started better than Zurrieq and in the first few minutes of the game from a lost ball from Zurrieq in the middle area of the pitch managed to put the lead. Zurrieq through Rueben Collins equalised with a powerful shot from the left part towards the right top of the Naxxar net, settling the situation immediately. Zurrieq were becoming more aggressive and more concentrated and Tyron Borg managed to score the second goal for Zurrieq. On the other hand, Naxxar did not give up at all and within a few minutes they managed to equalise. Few substitutions from Zurrieq managed to balance the squad more and it was defender Joseph Lia through a powerful shot managed to put Zurrieq on the lead for the second time. Now Zurrieq began to play the counter attack and in one occassion, Tyron Borg managed to get the ball from a Naxxar defender and on the run, shot a precise shot to beat the Naxxar keeper, who was rushing out of his post and making the result 4 -2 in favour of Zurrieq till the end of the first half.
From the beginning of the second half, Zurrieq began to try to do a possession game knowing that they had a lead of two goals and why try to continue to make an aggressive game when the result was in their favour. Continue to perform the counter attack - those were the instructions. It was in fact in the middle of the second half that through a fast counter attack, Zurrieq's winger Ian Attard was unlucky to hit the post. But in one attack from Naxxar, a low shot from their attacker managed to pass under the Zurrieq defender, and the Zurrieq keeper could do nothing. Immediately afterwards, Naxxar managed to equalise through a counter attack. axxar attacker shot towards Zurrieq posts, and it was deviated from a Zurrieq defender towards its own net. Zurrieq tried all what possible in the few remaining minutes but the result did not change.
Zurrieq now have to wait for the next match between Naxxar Motors and Paola Stars to know if there are any hopes for the play offs!

Thomas Cook Dentrade 4 vs Zurrieq FC 3
Thomas Cook started immediately pressing on Zurrieq. Although Zurrieq had created two open score chances in the first ten minutes, it was Thomas Cook who scored first exactly after Zurrieq missed their first chance. Zurrieq began to press a little more and after the second chance was missed it was again Thomas Cook who doubled. Some substitutions and the Zurrieq team was transformed. Chances were being created one after the other and at this moment it was Zurrieq who were pressing on Thomas Cook in their area. Good work by Steven Hayman to protect the ball and while turning to face the Thomas Cook’s net, he fired a shot in the net to reduce the gap between the two teams. Zurrieq continued to press hard knowing that it would benefit them if they equalise before the end of the first half. And so it was! This time is was Zurrieq FC top scorer Reuben Collins who managed to equalise with a powerful shot from outside the opponents’ area.
During the time between the halves, coach Magri continued to give indications to the players about what he expected in the second half. Immediately after the whistle Zurrieq managed to go on the lead through a shot by Tyron Borg after good work by his team mates. Another open score opportunity few seconds after the third goal for Zurrieq was missed. Thomas Cook could not penetrate the solid defence in front of keeper Bugeja while Zurrieq continued to create and create a considerable amount of open score chances which were all missed. And unfortunately those who miss chances have to pay dearly for such mistakes because in their first occasion at the end of the game, Thomas Cook equalised when they were awarded a free kick in Zurrieq’s area and the deflected shot went towards another Thomas Cook’s player who shot immediately in Zurrieq’s net. Last few seconds of the game, and Zurrieq put all their efforts to score but in a counter attack in the injury time, Thomas Cook managed to score their fourth goal which gave them the victory.

Zurrieq FC 2 vs Safi Southsiders 2
The first match of the second round started with the derby of the South. Both teams were in need of the three points for different reasons - Zurrieq to remain with the top teams fighting for the promotion while Safi to keep fighting to avoid relegation.
Zurrieq started very attentive in their manouevres and their play so as not to give any chances to the opponents. In the first minutes Safi had a little bit more of the ball possession but were never a treat to Zurrieq goaler. On the other hand Zurrieq in the first three score opportunities, they managed to score when a ball passed to Tyron, whom on the run fired a powerful shot which Safi goaler neutralised but the ball fell again in the vicinity of Tyron who with a first timer and with an attacker opportunity put Zurrieq on the lead. Safi's defence continued to be attentive although now Zurrieq began to press for the second goal but unfortunately, a loose marking of the opponent in the vicinity of Zurrieq posts, gave the chance to Safi's attacker to draw the situation. Zurrieq were a little bit demoralised and the play on their behalf slowed. Safi managed to go on the lead from a well executed corner setpiece which left Zurrieq defenders looking. Some instructions and substitutions from Coach Magri, gave the opportunity to Zurrieq to regain confidence in their play and few minutes from the end of the first half, Zurrieq managed to score their second goal and equalise the situation. Reuben Collins managed to win the ball in the middle of the pitch and on the run fired a low shot which passed through the defending line straight into the net.
The second half started where the end of the first half ended - Zurrieq pressing and running to score the winning goal. Various open score occassions were created but the much desired goal for Zurrieq never came either to the lack of concentration by the players infront of the opponents net as well as the fantastic saves by Safi goaler. Oh yes one should say it that Safi's goaler was in a fantastic mood in the second half. Safi had three open score occassions on counter attacks but they found an attentive Zurrieq goaler. The match ended in a 2-2 draw where both teams weren't happy with the result!

Pieta RMF Wolves 2 vs Zurrieq FC 7
Zurrieq FC had to win and convince to keep fighting for the promotion to first division. Coach Magri had to do a lot of work during these last days for the team moral and for the preparation of this game since he couldn’t utilize three players from the squad, one due to injury or the other two for suspension.
In the first few minutes of the game Zurrieq were cautious in their manoeuvre and even sometimes they left the initiative to Pieta, who managed to construct one to two occasions but Zurrieq keeper Marvin Bugeja was in wonderful mood and said “no” to the Pieta attackers. A substitution by Coach Magri, changed the andament of the game. Zurrieq began to produce wonderful play and in few minutes they missed three open score chances. Through the middle of the first half, Roderick Caruana had different ideas and with a powerful shot scored the first goal to put Zurrieq on the lead. Pieta panicked and Zurrieq continued to press hard for a better score before the half time whistle. In a fast counterattack, Saviour robbed the ball in the middle of the pitch passed immediately to Hayman, who shielded the ball and returned the ball to the running Saviour who with a first touch passed the ball immediately to Reuben whom with a powerful first timer struck the second goal for Zurrieq. Zurrieq wanted more! Substitutions continued non stop so that fresh legs were always on the pitch. The players continued to run and press hard in every part of the pitch and in a last occasion a shot from the left side of Pieta net from Reuben Collins hit the post, the ball rolled towards Roderick who immediately dribbled the rushing opponent and fired a powerful shot in the upper most part of the net where Pieta keeper could do nothing. Few seconds later, the referee whistled the end of the first half.
Zurrieq entered the pitch with a lot of confidence for the second half and Pieta punished them with an immediate goal. This did not panick Zurrieq players. Few minutes afterwards Reuben stole the ball from a Pieta player, dribbled the player on the run and shot to score his second goal of the match and Zurrieq’s fourth goal. Zurrieq continued to create manoeuvres and tactical play, and undoubtedly wonderful one-touch futsal. A lot of chances were again missed either to the braveness of Pieta’s keeper and sometimes due to the lack of concentration in front of the opposing net. Again Zurrieq continued to increase the score. Frankie Sammut managed to win the ball in Zurrieq’s side, run with the ball almost all pitch and passed the ball to Roderick Caruana who was unmarked and could only score his third goal for his first hat-trick of the season and Zurrieq’s fifth. Pieta again managed to score after an indecision by Zurrieq defenders. After again hitting the post and missed some score occasions, Zurrieq made it six. Noel passed the ball to its right to Alex Muscat, whom returned the ball again to Noel who immediately passed the ball to Tyron on his left who shot the ball in Pieta’s net. Few minutes remained till the end of the match and Alex Muscat wanted to leave a sign of his own to the match. Through a corner set piece, Hayman passed the ball to Alex, who stopped the ball , managed to dribble Pieta’s keeper in a restricted space and placed the ball in the net to make the final score Zurrieq FC 7 and Pieta RMF Wolves 2.

After the broken right ankle in last Friday's match against Pentagon, and the operation on Saturday morning at the Mater Dei, where he passed the following two days to rest, Ivan is recuparating slowly his energies so as to be fit as soon as possible for the continuation of the season matches. In a few comments taken from Ivan during our visits, he wished to thank all his team companions, Coach and Committee for the support shown to him during these difficult days, and to those other futsal players and teams that expressed their wishing for a fast recovery in varies ways and means.
From here we would like to continue to give Ivan the support he needs, and wishing him "GET WELL SOON" and hope to see you on the pitch in few weeks time!
Zurrieq FC 1 vs Pentagon Properties BFC 4
Zurrieq suffered their second defeat of the season in a dramatic match. Zurrieq were without Tyrone Borg due to illness but on the other hand wellcomed Roderick Caruana, who had missed the last three matches due to a knee injury. The two teams started cautiously waiting each other for the initial five minutes. Pentagon had the first opportunity to open the score after they were awarded a controversial penalty which also saw Zurrieq's defender Ian Attard sent off for handling the ball on the goal line but they spurned the chance after their player fired high above the post! Zurrieq engineered a counter attack which led Roderick Caruana unmarked and thrashed an unstoppable shot at the top part of the net to put his side ahead. Zurrieq were now controlling the game but they suffered another blow when defender Ivan Zammit was forced out after breaking his right foot! The match had to be stopped for several minutes until an ambulance came to take Ivan to hospital. (On behalf of all the members and players of Zurrieq F.C. we wish Ivan a speedy recovery! Get well soon!) Soon after the game continued Pentagon drew level from a corner set piece to end the first half on equal terms. The second half started much as the first one however Pentagon managed to go ahead in the 8th minute after some sloppy defending from Zurrieq. Pentagon put all their efforts in defending and closing every possible gap and made it very difficult for Zurrieq to penetrate. Zurrieq suffered another blow when goalkeeper Mark Farrugia was sent off for handling the ball outside his area and from the resulting freekick Pentagon scored their third goal. Just before the final whistle Pentagon added another to make the final score 4-1.

Naxxar Motors 1 vs Zurrieq FC 0
The match between two of the promising contenders started on time at the Corradino Pavilion. Immediately one could notice the attentiveness and the cautiousness of both teams. Although both teams were looking forward of winning the game, both were tactically prudent all the time and tried not to give space for any opportunity of scoring to the opponent team. Naxxar’s tactic was to play 3-1 where every time the defenders had the ball tried immediately to shoot a long pass all the way across the pitch to the forward, and the latter either tries to beat the defender and shoot or else pass to one of the coming defenders. Zurrieq on the other hand began immediately to try and do fast movements with and without the ball, pass the ball with one or two touch, and find a space to shoot to the opponent’s goalpost. Although Naxxar defended very well, some open score occasions for Zurrieq were unbelievably missed, where even in certain occasions the Naxxar goalkeeper was almost totally beaten. In one particular occasion, a powerful shot hit the bar from nearby. Throughout the first half Zurrieq tried also some shots from afar but resulted in vain. Naxxar had some powerful shots from the outside but they found always an attentive Marco Farrugia between the Zurrieq posts. The first half ended in a goalless draw although with a beautiful and fast game from both teams with continuous overlapping.
During the time between the first and second half, coach Magri had a lot to say to his players and immediately in the first few minutes of the second half, again three open score occasions were missed showing the ill-fated day. Naxxar continued without haste to play the same game played during the first half again and trying some shots from afar but never a threat to Zurrieq keeper Marco. Zurrieq played well and continued to press in the Naxxar area although sometimes they even hurried too much to build the manoeuvre and lost the ball to the cautious Naxxar defenders. Zurrieq believed that still few minutes from the end they could grab the much wanted fourth consecutive win but in the last minute of the match in one of Zurrieq’s manoeuvres, with Ivan having the ball in the middle of the pitch being pressed by Naxxar players unfortunately lost the ball and in a rapid counter attack managed to score the only goal of the game. With few seconds remaining for the end of the match Zurrieq tried the last efforts to grab the draw but resulted futile. This was the first loss of the season and unfortunately Zurrieq did not deserve it due to the continuous good manoeuvres throughout the whole match and the score occassions missed.

Paola Stars FC 1 vs Zurrieq FC Futsal 4
The first minutes of the game showed a very prudent and fast-passing Zurrieq with Paola being very cautious in the defence although taking advantage of any situation arising during the game. Zurrieq were finding it very difficult to penetrate the Paola back line and this was making them nervous with shots towards the Paola Net coming from afar. In the middle of the first half a mistake by the Zurrieq defence led to the Paola attacker to come face to face with Marco Farrugia and netted the first goal of the game and the only one for Paola Stars. Rage showed in the face of the Zurrieq players and in few minutes they levelled the situation with a good job on the wing by Tyron Borg which passed the ball by the Paola goalkeeper who was rushing towards him, to Steven Hayman whom was waiting near the post and had only to kick in the net. This goal reassured Zurrieq that this game could be theirs too. They continued to press the Paola Stars and from a corner kick, Reuben Collins netted his first goal of the season and gave the lead to Zurrieq. Before the whistle for the end of the first half another corner, this time from the left side, the ball travelled along the whole length of the Paola Stars Net with again Reuben Collins making a sliding tackle to reach the ball and netted in making the result for the first half 3 -1 in favour of Zurrieq.
Zurrieq entered the pitch for the second half in a very comfortable mood, pressing on Paola Stars players in their area and performing possession to create open spaces to score. A lot of chances by the Zurrieq players were missed in front of the Paola keeper whilst Zurrieq keeper had only to intervene twice in the whole duration of the second half, one of which was a wonderful instinct save when a powerful shot from the outside area was deflected by a Zurrieq defender. Possession by Zurrieq was dominant throughout the second half and in one occasion Zurrieq scored again, Collins passed the ball to Ivan whom while Collins ran behind him to the right side of the pitch towards the opposing half, rushed towards Paola midfielders and passed the ball to the running Collins who immediately shot a powerful and a low shot to beat the Paola keeper for the fourth time during the game. Zurrieq continued to control the game till the end with the final score to read Paola Stars 1 – Zurrieq FC 4 with Collins to score a hat-trick.

Zurrieq FC Futsal 4 vs Thomas Cook 1
The sound of the initial whistle for the game to start still reverberated the Corradino Pavilion and Zurrieq FC were leading the game 1-0. Ivan Zammit robbed the ball in the middle of the pitch and passed it to Tyron, who on the run passed the ball immediately to Reuben Collins who returned it instantly to Tyron who had only to place the ball in the net with Thomas Cook's goalkeeper not knowing what had happened. Zurrieq continued to play well, pressing, fighting for the ball, running, opening spaces and some opportunies were also missed. In the middle of the first half, Thomas Cook equalised. But on the first occassion Zurrieq scored. It was Ian Attard who scored after receiving the ball from Tyron. Saviour Busuttil made it 3-1 before the end of the first half with a powerful shot in the upper part of the net, after receiving the ball from Stephen Hayman who had received the ball from Marco Farrugia.
During the second half of the match, continuous substitutions from coach Magri, led to keep the game in Zurrieq's hand and command. It was Tyron again who scored the fourth goal for Zurrieq with a shot from the left side. Zurrieq continued to press throughout the whole time and hit the bar two times. Near the end of the match Thomas Cook were awarded a penalty after goalkeeper Farrugia fouled Thomas Cook player in the penalty area. Goalkeeper Farrugia managed to save the shot from the penalty spot.

The evening of the 2nd November 2007 was the continuation of the beginning from where the last General Annual Meeting held in August left. Everything to the least of details was planned, . . . was ready. As usual the players met at Corradino Pavilion's dressing rooms about three quarters of an hour prior to the match where the Committee, after a short speech, presented each player with the new sportwear. Enthusiasm in the eyes of the players glared. Some minutes before the commencement of the second season game, the Official Team Photo for the Season 2007-08 was taken.
Results began to fruit - in organisation as well as in the game. From these lines, we would like to thank Mr. Collins (the Photographer) for the service rendered to the Club.
After the match, the Committee, the players and the supporters met at "Serjeants' Mess - Bar & Restaurant" within the Corradino Pavilion Sports Complex to officially present the Sponsors for this season. He congratulated the players for the fantastic game they played earlier and hoped that this would be the season for the immediate promotion to the Futsal First Division. Safi Southsiders 2 - Zurrieq FC Futsal 6
The referee's whistle sounded at the Corradino Pavilion at two in the evening initialising the first game of the season for Zurrieq FC Futsal and the Derby of the South as is known by both parties. In the first minutes Safi showed immediately their intentions - be cautious, don't give space and speed in the counter attacks while Zurrieq wanted to press and run forward the ball to find the goal as soon as possible and have the possibility to change the disposition of the game. As time went by through the first half, the attentiveness of the Safi defenders made it hard for the Zurrieq players to play their game and penetrate the defensive line. A lost ball at midfield created the counter attack Safi waited for, and although pressed with a defender the Safi attacker scored with futsal debutant goalkeeper Marco Farrugia, who couldn't do anything to stop the ball. With continuous substitutions and instructions from the Coach, Zurrieq began to wake up and come into play. Roderick Caruana robbed the ball in Safi half, dribbled the defender and from an angled position fired a powerful shot in the top of Safi's net equalising the result and giving a relief before the first half ended.
During the half, Coach Magri continued to give instructions to the team and surely the supporters watching the game from the stands could see that the Zurrieq team was totally transformed in their attitude and their play. Wonderful work from Noel Sciberras on the right wing where he dribbled his opponent and ran all the way to Safi's side and passed the ball to Tyron Borg who scored his first goal of the season and the second goal for Zurrieq. Few minutes after was the commencement of Hayman's goleada! A long pass to Steve Hayman where he dribbled the last man and face-to-face with Safi's keeper lobbed the ball into the net, making the score 3-1 in favour of Zurrieq. Immediately afterwards a long ball, this time from goalkeeper Farrugia towards Hayman, where with his back to the defender, controlled the ball, dribbled his opponent and with the goalkeeper running out, managed to shoot the ball with the front tip of his right foot pass the keeper. The game seemed totally in hand of Zurrieq but Safi did not give up. They pressed the Zurrieq defence and in one occassion a powerful shot from outside the area beat Zurrieq keeper. A fast manouever from Zurrieq where Ivan Zammit robbed the ball in Zurrieq's half passed immediately the ball to Reuben Collins and although pressed from a Safi player managed to return with a touch the ball to Ivan who was running along the right wing and the latter seeing Ian Attard running towards the post alone, touched the incoming ball underneath the legs of an oncoming defender and Attard with some difficulty managed to score his debutant first goal in the futsal game and Zurrieq fifth goal. Although some other good score occassions were missed mainly due to the brave saves by Safi's keeper, Hayman said his last to the game with the sixth goal for Zurrieq and his third, making it the first hat-trick of the Season.

Coach Magri and the Zurrieq FC Futsal Committee during these last weeks, few days prior to the commencement of the Season wanted to fill in some gaps in the team. Infact wo new signings were recently made which are

goalkeeper Marco Farrugia, ex-player of Zurrieq FC, who played with various local teams including Floriana FC and recently Mqabba FC; and

Alexei Saliba, also ex-player of Zurrieq FC, who will be the youngest player of the team with his 18 years.
Welcome to both of you and have a wonderful season!
Few weeks passed from the assignment of Mr. George Magri as Zurrieq FC Futsal Coach. During these last days, all of us had noticed the interest and the commitment he took and is still taking in forwarding his experience and his knowledge about the Futsal game to the players. The interest and commitment are shown from small examples that can be listed, such as trying to help the Committee, attending the latest Futsal course organised by MFA, speaking to the players in a friendly way, the preparation of the training sessions, the explanations of the exercises during the training sessions, and so on. All the things cannot be listed as undoubtedly the site will be fully packed. We can only say THANK YOU COACH!
Coach Magri preparing the teams for a "partitella" during a training session.
A moment from a "partitella".
The training sessions organised by the Coach varies from one session to the other and from one week to the other. Every session training has something different to practise and to learn. Till now the Coach is pressing mostly on the physical training, speed, co-ordination and balance, individual skills, team skills, team tactics, positioning of the team, defending and attacking as a team. Well a lot here! And still more to repeat and more new things to do! But although the hard work during the sessions, the enthusiasm and the joyous atmosphere that reigns between the players and the work by Mr. Magri can give us something hope for!
Coach Magri explaining to the players what he wishes they try to do.
Hard work but still explaining. The Coach wants more!
