Impossible Is Nothing!!!

Mexico leaded by captain Sandro Sammut and Team Manager Paul managed for the first time to win the Marlene Trophy. After placing second in their group they managed to beat New Team in the quarter finals and afterwards Atletico Tarxien in the semi-final. In the decisive match, in the long waited final, they meet last year winners, San Gennaro. It was a very good game mainly dominated by the two defenses although the attackers managed to create interesting goal opportunities but they always found the opposing keeper very attentive. In the second half Mexico managed to open the score but it took only few seconds for San Gennaro to equalise the result. The last whistle from the referee ended up the game in a 1 -1. Then the penalty shoot outs gave the win to Mexico. 

After the celebrations by the Mexico players and their supporters, Zurrieq FC Futsal President Frankie Sammut gave a brief speech mainly thanking all participating teams, volunteers and sponsors and then gave the word to Ms. Marlene Pullicino, the main sponsor for her brief speech and the presentation of the awards to the finalists San Gennaro and thenn to the winners Mexico. At the end the Marlene Cup was presented to captain Sandro Sammut and Team Manager Paul, where the celebrations continued afterwards.

A record in the number of teams to participate for this yearly event - sixteen (16) teams in all. The newly installed synthetic pitch at the Zurrieq Primary School has attracted a numerous amount of participants for this event. The following are the teams:

The Summer Yearly Tournament held at the Zurrieq Primary School better known as the "Zurrieq Football Challenge Cup" will be held on Friday 1st, Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of August. After successful years of organising such tournament, this year 3rd edition, a totally innovation will characterise this event. For the very first time, the football matches will be played on SYNTHETIC FLOORING rather than the usual concrete finish floor. More detailed information will be continuously adjorned on this web page during the coming weeks.
